One of the biggest problems Farmers Market Finds has visiting farmers markets and researching hand-crafters is finding a vendor that I LOVE everything they make. Usually I have the self-control to pick one thing and write down the vendor information so I can go back for more. But every now and then, it just happens…I can’t pick one thing – I try but I can’t. This quandary happened recently when I came across the hand sewn wonders at Side Stitch by Ginny. In search of a yoga mat bag, I found Ginny through Artisan Exchange in West Chester, PA. Finding her there, led me to both her Facebook and Etsy sites.
Once I found this amazing yoga bag, I had to know more about Ginny and her products. To my surprise I found out that Ginny was a soil chemist who had moved back to the US from Canada in 2004 following her husband’s job change. In a search for a new and creative way to spend her time, Ginny purchased a sewing machine in 2009 and started playing with mixing and matching fabrics. Her amazing eye for unique fabric combinations led to her create a wide line of products including aprons, scarves, pillows, table runners, head bands, wine bags, skirts, purses and of course, the yoga mat bag.
Ginny’s work really stands out from the crowd. Her head bands are backed with velvet ribbon and interlocked elastics at base to ensure a comfortable, secure fit that stretches to your head size. As a runner, Ginny has marathon tested her headbands for strength and durability. Side Stitch by Ginny’s infinity scarves, custom made “Evan” double-sided stadium blankets, and double layer baby blankets are made from wonderfully soft, high quality machine washable flannel. The flannel provides both softness and warmth to her amazing designs. Each piece is handcrafted by Ginny and her love of design and detail can be seen in each piece.
Ginny also does wonderful pillows and other home decor items. Using 100% cotton, Side Stitch by Ginny has a wide selection of beautifully crafted table runners (reversible!!!) and pillows. If you happen live close to Exton, PA, Side Stitch by Ginny also does magnificent upholstery recovery. For a woman who only started working with a sewing machine in 2009, her work exudes talent and creative flare that is hard to find.
Side Stitch by Ginny is happy to make custom orders and her Etsy page showcases each of her handmade products and provides many options of fabrics and colors to choose from. Make sure to check out the Side Stitch by Ginny Facebook page for information on new products, contests, special pricing and her Artisan Exchange schedule. Also, every now and then Ginny will hold a porch sale on the porch of her magnificent home built in 1797 or attend a local “pop-up” market. Make sure to check her website for everywhere she will be this fall and into the holiday markets!
