Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market Rooted in the Community for 95 Years

A few weeks ago Farmers Market Finds told you about the amazing Ann Arbor Street Art Fair.  Now we have another reasons to sing this Michigan city’s praises – it’s 95 year old Ann Arbor Farmers Market. This is one of the longest running markets we have come across. The Kerrytown part of Ann Arbor has been home to the market for 80 years. The market shares a rich history and has grown in concert with the city of Ann Arbor.  The year-round market (yes, even during those cold Michigan winter months) hosts both permanent and rotating vendors including farmers, plant growers, food makers, and artisans.Like many markets, they are open on Saturdays and in the summer they “double dip” offering daytime and evening markets on Wednesday.  For a special treat, and a true taste of the heart of Ann Arbor, make sure to check out the Wednesday night market starting June 3rd. You will enjoy the live entertainment, mid-week shopping and a wide variety of food options. Treat yourself!  Food carts are available with dinner and dessert and the live music and relaxed vibe sets the stage for an unforgettable summer meal.

The market has also found a way to stay modern and mainstream with a food truck dinner event on the third Wednesday of every month. Next to farmers markets, food trucks are a close second on our list of places to eat! The market also runs a full schedule of events including special Halloween and Holiday Markets. Follow their web page and Facebook page to add these to your calendar.IMG_0315

Another event we recommend is the Taste of Music evenings in partnership with the Ann Arbor Symphony. On July 1, from 4-8 pm and on the 3rd Saturday in October, the market will feed your body and your soul by offering a special symphony concert. During these unique performances, the symphony will give away tickets to full performances.  While enjoying the sounds of the Taste of Music, children can also enjoy the unique “Instrument Petting Zoo.”  The zoo allows children to see, touch, and try a variety of musical instruments. It’s a fun filled evening that will delight the whole family! Also be sure to attend the markets annual birthday party on August 1st.  Celebrate 96 years of market fun at this day long celebration!

With 140 vendors we recommend you come hungry and bring a large bag!  You won’t be leaving with an empty stomach or with empty hands! So whether your heading up to the University of Michigan, in town for the Street Art Fair, or just lucky enough to be in Ann Arbor make sure to check to include a stop at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market!.
